Excavating Grief

There are many, many definitions of grief.

The one that resonates most deeply with me is that

grief is

"the internal,

automatic,

unlearned response to loss."

It’s the definition of grief presented by Dr. Ken Moses, an Evanston, Illinois psychologist that I heard speak in April of 2005.

If you love and expereince the loss of that which you love...you will grieve.

Grief is the internal, automatic, unlearned response to loss.

Grief is very different from mourning.

Everyone grieves.

Most of us have forgotten how to mourn.
