Excavating Grief

There are many, many definitions of grief.

The one that resonates most deeply with me is that grief is

"the internal,

automatic,

response to loss."

It’s my variation of the definition of grief presented by Dr. Ken Moses, an Evanston, Illinois psychologist that I heard speak in April of 2005.

Dr. Moses suggested that grief is an unlearned response.  I`m not certain.  I tend to lean in the direction of thinking that some expressions of grief are unlearned, and some are learned.

What i do know for certain is they if you love and experience the loss of that which you love...you will grieve.

Grief is the internal, automatic, response to loss.

Grief is very different from mourning.

Everyone grieves.

Most of us have forgotten how to mourn.
